Suffice it to say, we were hesitant to believe Oregon would be a great place to celebrate a friend’s birthday.
It’s nothing on Oregon (or Portland for that matter), but when a vacation comes to mind, we only ever think about the hot, warm, tropical parts of the world. Somewhere we can let our little chicken cutlets out into the wild with a speedo or two.
But, as life has taught us, time and time again, we’re all too often wrong in our assumptions. Assumptions, like, “all we ever need is just one slice of pizza” — why stop at one? And just like that, we were so wrong to assume Oregon would be a vacation amiss.
From sprawling mountains covered in green to high reaching waterfalls at every turn, Oregon was a sight to see. We went from Portland to the Dalles to Astoria and Cannon Beach, driving along rivers and the coast, and mostly by way of Uber, letting our family know where we were at every turn, even if they were all back in California.
The 411: call it codependence or call it just being amazing sons 😛 we let our families know (by way of our mothers) wherever we were on an Uber ride, via Uber’s new Trusted Contacts feature, sharing our trip details at any moment’s notice. No matter how far away we were, our families were able to know the exact moment we arrived at every destination — no confusion, no need to text them on our own.
This extra step and commitment to safety makes us feel more comfortable, more secure in a world that can seem so crazy at times.

Back to Oregon. Oh, Oregon.
We never caught a photo of it, but during our entire 6 day trip, we saw a handful of bald eagles — a surprise to us because we’ve never seen them in the wild until now — and something about the sight, them soaring overhead, made us feel like the trip was altogether worth it just to see that. Wherever we are, wherever we go, we can’t help but feel so fortunate to have these experiences to share.
We love you Oregon.
