And a huge thank you (again) to Capital One® for sending us to Hawaii for our first time together.
Cut to the chase, it’s been two weeks since our trip and we don’t even know where to begin. Our expectations for the trip — largely snorkeling, scuba diving and laying in the sun 24/7 — were quickly cut short by a tropical storm that lasted two days, off and on, while we were in Oahu. But, that didn’t stop us 😉
Enter: one of our favorite trips EVER. Just see for yourself in the video below 😛
To recap from our ‘Hawaii Bound’ post last month, we booked our stay at the Laylow Hotel in Waikiki with our Capital One Venture Card, earning 10 miles for every dollar spent with our Venture Card at hotels.com/venture (pro tip: you can do that too!).
Couple that with the fact that we earned double miles on every purchase while we were on the trip itself plus earned Hotels.com Rewards for each night and suddenly it felt like we were being rewarded for traveling (and then some).
For the trip itself, here’s how it went:
When it came to planning for the trip, we took a ton of recommendations from friends and family, all telling us to go to this shrimp truck over that shrimp truck, to go to this beach over that beach, and everything else in between.
But, what started out as a highly planned vacation quickly transformed into something so much better, where we made decisions on the fly, partially due to the weather but mostly because we just wanted to adventure.
Standouts included:
- Eating some of the best garlic shrimp we’ve ever tasted at Fumi’s Kahuku Shrimp Truck on the North Shore.
- Snorkeling in Waimea Bay while the sun peeped out for the first time during our trip!
- Hiking Diamond Head for the first time at 10am on a Sunday morning (peak crowd time, but that didn’t bother us! It was actually so fun to be around so many people, all hiking up to the top together).
Take us back to Hawaii!
